What is Autism?

Pervasive Developmental Disorder Is described as autism.  This can be described in three different behavioral aspects.
1. Impaired Social Skills
2. Impaired Communication skills
3. A Characteristic of behavior problems

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is another way to describe autism.  This can be either a higher functional form of autism or milder form of autism that is less profound.  Regardless, (ASD) is a life long struggle.  These children can have a high intellect, but still lack basic social skills.

Individual Differences

All Children should be taught about individual differences even if they do not have autism.  Autism affects children culturally, educationally and economically.  Each of us may experience a disability or illness sometime in our lifetime that will cause us to feel different from other people.  However, for a child with autism this is an ongoing daily routine.  If you are a parent with an autistic child you will have to overcome your Child's resistance to socialize and learn, but your child can learn!

Have Fun

Eat nutritious meals and get regular exercise.  For example, take walks in the park and enjoy nature or watch a movie together.  Talk to other parents who are going through the same challenges that you are experiencing.  Finally, strive to surround yourself with people who care about you and your child.  If possible try to have fun!
